Built in 1927 by Tom Gotts for Marion’s father in the Arts & Crafts Style. Mr. Moore owned Moore & Minto Clothiers in town. Marion was 10 yrs old when the family moved into the house. Marion became the local piano teacher, giving lessons in the house. She never married and lived in the house until 1979. We purchased the house from her in May, 1979. We are the second owners.
The two story house is approximately 1600 ft2 . It has 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, a modern kitchen, formal dining room, living room, a sun room with beveled glass 15-lite French doors, walk up attic, full basement and a one car garage. There is cedar clapboard on the lower story and cedar shake on the upper story.
The house has blown in cellulose insulation; plaster walls on wood lath. No plywood used in construction (i. e. no formaldehyde). There is a thermostatically controlled attic fan and a whole house fan.
High efficiency gas forced air heat was new in 1994 as was the central air conditioning. The house was painted in 2006. The size of the electric service was increased to 100 A and new wiring was added in about 1980. The copper plumbing was new in the early 80’s. In 1992 we did a complete tear-off of the roof and replaced it with 40 year shingles with ridge vent and new gutters. The basement floor was repoured in early 1990’s. The concrete driveway and garage floor were replaced in 2000. The backyard was landscaped in 1993 making it an outdoor room with a brick patio.
There was a complete bathroom remodel in1994 including ceramic tile on the walls, Corian counter top and sink, maple cabinets and trim and a deep bath tub. .
The kitchen was remodeled in 1992. In 2004 the cook top, range vent and countertops were replaced and a Motawi Tile backsplash was added. The oak floor was also added then. There are 9 foot ceilings on the main floor. New Pella windows throughout (2001 and 2003); oak floors on main floor; oak trim on main floor; oak stairs, banisters, hand rail and Newell post; transoms were added in the living room and dining room in 2003; wall to wall carpeting on second floor over finished SPF floors. Half bath has ceramic tile floor with warming device in the floor. 50 gallon gas water heater. Brass door hardware and glass door knobs; brass outlet and switch plates.

Milan, Michigan is a rural town close to three metropolitan areas. It straddles the line between Washtenaw and Monroe counties. Milan has excellent schools and easy access to US 23, a major north/south expressway. It is 15 minutes from Ann Arbor, 35 minutes from Detroit, 30 minutes from Toledo and 20 minutes from Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
