we have a 1920 bungalow in martinez calif. that we are returning (slowly) to it's original old self.
the fireplace was "redone" with fake brick and a potbelly stove. we have torn that all out and are looking to have a simple brick fireplace put in. need to find someone in the bay area that can do this work at a fair price.
also want to add a small window in the front of the house. it is in a 2nd floor attic space so really is only for looks and ventilation. have thoughts of going to Urban Ore in Berkeley but then thought we could have someone build us a wood window. it will be painted so not looking for anything special. it will be a 4 pane square window (side by side) that will probably have to be awning or hopper designed so we can open it for ventilation (i'm guessing about 2' high x 5' wide). does anyone know a window builder in the east bay area that would make this for us? (and what kind of price are we looking at?)
thank you!

Here's a couple of places:

http://www.woodwindowswarehouse.com/

I'm guessing about 400-500.

Good luck.

thank you for the wooden windows referral. i contacted them and sent photos of what we are looking for.
the price for a primed "awning" window (approx 2.5' x 4') (uninstalled) was $1200. yikes! a little more than we expected. got an email from a local window/door guy who saw my craigslist ad and said we might be able to come up with a used window somewhere. thought i would go to Urban Ore in Berkeley and poke around their salvage yard and see if they ever come across a bungalow window. it might be a shot in the dark, but it's worth a try since we are trying to avoid the "home depot vinyl look".
