Post Breakfast Nook (Table & Bench) Plans
Does anyone know of a source for vintage built-in breakfast nook plans including the table and seating? I see old house plans that show the space for a nook but was wondering if they go into detail on how to construct the table and benches.

I’ve been doing some internet research and the pre-built ones look HORRIBLE. I’ve seen pictures of new ones by homeowners (not to impressive) and those of original kitchens. The originals have such permanence and minor detail that gives them a quality look.

Thanks in advance,
Rich

PS I already did a search on the forum pages as well

Here is a thread from a little over a year ago. I posted an original photo and blueprint of our nook:

Thanks Mike!! Very MUCH appreciated!!!

I was getting "no matches" when doing a search but just now realized I didn't change the date range.

Thanks again, Rich

You're certainly welcome. I know that Bess, the original owner of our house, took the design for the nook table leg from one picture she had seen and the design for the curve on the bench edges from a different one. These were in letters that she wrote back and forth with the builders.

According to pictures we have, the half wall side of the nook (toward the door) was removed in 1948, twenty years after the house was built.

Here's how it looked when we first saw the place:

Here's how it looked after we had stripped paint off the top of the table:

Rich, here is a link to my website which will show a diner booth I built. It is a copy of what the Worcester Lunch Car Co. of Mass. used in their diners in the 1930s. www.thombrot.com (click on photo gallery) there are many styles of these which were built in this period and surprizingly, a lot of them are still available at flea markets and like places. a lot of them have been painted though or are not built of great looking wood. I have built several sets of these and as shown on the website with quarter sawn oak and a tennessee marble top go for about $2800

I'd love to check them out. Can you post a link where they are located?

When redoing our kitchen, the remodel was driven by replacing original nook.
Much too small by today's standards, so we moved a wall to enlarge the original concept. After looking at many bungalow books, we had our carpenter build it. The table is completely movable for easier cleaning.
The benches have hinged seats which is wonderful storage.
Try this:
detnews.com
in search bar, put, dressed for the times
Article appears, and the photo of nook is #8.
