Re: Multimedia Office in Craftsman Style?
Hey JPM, I definitely feel your pain in this challenge. But it can be done. I've seen people hide stereo speakers behind wooden-slated screens. Built-in shelving, if you can do it, is always a nice way to accomplish this. As it relates to televisions, the funny thing is that most people with Arts and Crafts style places typically do hide the television more than people with other decor styles. I think it's because we would rather showcase books and pottery more than a television.
One thing that seems to work well is if you can get a cabinet where the television is either lowered into the top of the unit or it has doors that close and the television and other equipment is out of site until used. If it's furniture you're seeking, I have come across a couple of places that might suit your needs.
The first is HardwoodArtisans.com. They have a couple of computer desks that might fit the bill if that's one of the things on your list. As they are artists that use total hardwood in their furniture, you'll probably pay a bit more for their stuff. -- and no, I've never purchased anything from here but I've seen it and know the quality is quite good. Maybe one day.
The second place, which is actually one of my favorites, is called SimplyAmish. They have a website,
www.simplyamish.com and their stuff is amazing. Again, I haven't purchased anything from here, but my wife and I have commented how they make the only type of tv stand or display cabinet that we like for use with a flat screen television. If you go to their website you should be able to see an online catalog and they should have some pieces where the electronics are hidden when not in use. Check out the catolog though in terms of how the rooms are decorated in the pictures. I think you'll see some good ideas there. Hope that helps.
