Any suggestions on what color to choose for the walls above the tile surround? The bathroom is in a 1924 brick bungalow (unsure quite what type of bungalow) and is primarily black and white (except for the paint above the tile). Would it be common Also, is it common for the trim around the window to be white? I thought it was more the norm for the trim to be stripped and stained a natural color for this time period. Thanks for any information you can provide!

Hi there: Woodwork in bathrooms and kitchens was most commonly painted white or ivory, so no I don't think it would be a step towards authenticity to strip and stain the bathroom woodwork, nor do I think it would have been originally stained.

The color of green it is now is period I think. We are currently patching some plaster in our bathroom and have discovered that the plaster was once painted a very similar color of mint green. (I don't care for the color, personally, so I would not stand in line to throw tomatoes at anyone who painted over that color in a bathroom).

There is a great book called Bungalow Bathrooms that would show more period colors.

Gray will blend well with the white collaring and black and white tile theme. The combination of light and dark grays will look chic and classy. If you are unsure, check out the online color center and e-visualizer at the California Paints website. They have some great tips on choosing interior paint colors.
