Post Removing Paint Drips From Brick
We have just finished painting the trim of our brick house and it looks great except for the drips and slops from old paint jobs. Before we painted, we didn't really notice how much paint was on the bricks because the whole house looked so bad. But, now that we have a great paint job, everything shows up. The unwanted paint falls into two categories, relatively small (although numerous) drips and a band of brushed on paint next to the wood trim. I have experimented with paint remover and water-based Goof Off. I can get most of the paint off, but not quite enough to make the spots go away. So after all my work, it still looks bad. I am almost ready to buy brick colored stain and start touching up the spots. HELP!

I've used "Peel-Away 7" with good results, took off 4 coats with one application. You can get it through Sherwin Williams-it's pricey but it works. Make sure they give you enough of the special paper that goes over it after you apply it. The paper keeps the remover from drying out. You put it fairly thick and because of the paper, it can stay on for as long as 2 days or more without drying out. When you peel off the paper, all the gooey old paint comes with it. Then just wipe it down like it says on the can.
Uhh, I have messy drips on my bricks FROM Peel-away. I used peelaway to take off the paint on my windows and even with dropcloths (albeit slack use of) I got drippy drops of it all over the place. Granted, I am using Peel-away 1 for painted wood. I also have old, rough bricks with lots of little nooks and crannies.

I really don't have layers off paint to remove. The paint itself is chalky and comes off fairly easily with a good rubbing. The problem is a residual white paint mark/stain after I take the paint off. (Probably paint in the fine texture of the brick.) If Peel-Away 7 will remove the residual paint mark/stain, I will gladly shell out $60+ for a gallon, but I don't need it just to remove the paint. Essentially, I am doing spot removal on the brick. What are your thoughts about Peal-Away for this more limited application?

I'm not sure about that, I used it to take the paint off of my fireplace to get back to the original brick.

If I can get less than a gallon of Peel-Away 7, I will try it and see what happens. If it works, I will let you and other folks know. I am sure that I am not the only person with this problem.
