Post Area Rug Suggestions?
Hello,

I am going to be getting an area rug for the living room of our 1920 bungalow. I don't think it is a specific style - kind of a cape cod / craftsman wanna be.

I am trying to decorate in and arts and crafts style. I am ending up with kind of a loose arts and crafts style and I guess what they are calling transitional(?)

I don't have enough $$ to buy a nice "authentic" arts and crafts rug. (I love the classic ginkgo leaf rug) Lowes has rugs that are in the $150 to $250 range that might work.

My questions are:
Is an "oriental rug" style inappropriate?
Any suggestions on styles?
Any suggestions for inexpensive sources?

Thank you!

Why don't you get a real, but lesser value, Persian rug rather than an acryllic home depot rug? rugman.com or ebay have a lot of them, though you would have to watch the shipping prices (many times they are high, though the actual rug price may seem very low). That way, you can get a real wool persian rug in a style that they would have used during arts and crafts times. That's what I did.

Although you've probably bought the rug by now...what about a Sisal or Coir or Seagrass. These are all natural texture rugs that would seem more appropriate than a new reproduction oriental. The price is very reasonable. Otherwise, bide your time and search flea markets and the like. My wife and I have often found older orientals (muted tones with minor damage) in the $300's.
